Abstract:
Digital Transformation and Data Management in Academia
Abstract:
In today's World, where information production tools and methods of accessing information are rapidly changing, transforming and digitalizing, higher education institutions are among the institutions that interact most with society in this aspect and have the capacity to direct developments. Universities undertake leading roles in the development of innovative digital tools for education, research, internationalization and social contribution activities. In addition to producing knowledge in all areas of activity, universities also have comprehensive information systems with their various units. Thanks to academic outputs, processes and information systems, data of different variety, speed, volume, value and accuracy are collected and significant difficulties are encountered in the management of this data. In particular, keeping the collected data in a distributed manner can make effective data management and analysis difficult. In this context, with the big data ecosystem studies initiated by Istanbul Technical University (ITU) in 2021, data coming through the corporate service path (70+ applications, management information systems, etc.), external source data (publication and citation data, project data, etc.) .) and non-digital desktop data are analyzed, interpreted and reported in a single environment. This platform, called BeeHub, offers powerful support to decision makers to make data-driven decisions, helping them identify trends, tendencies and relationships by analyzing large data sets and providing more information in strategic planning, resource management, sustainability student experience, research activities and other areas. It enables conscious and effective decisions to be made. On the other hand, the recently designed ITU Information Genome has introduced a modular information architecture with the Beenome digital platform, thus enabling the rich potential of the ITU ecosystem to be seen; It is aimed to effectively benefit from the talent pool of the ITU network in areas such as education, research, innovation and entrepreneurship. In this talk, digital transformation and data management approaches in academia are presented along with their real-life applications.
